Lacuniacha, The Wildlife Park of the Pyrenees
Lacuniacha is a wildlife park and natural forest located in Piedrafita de Jaca, in the heart of the Tena Valley (Aragonese Pyrenees). Covering more than 30 hectares of mountain terrain, this space is a true island of biodiversity, where the most representative flora and fauna of the Pyrenees coexist.
Along its 4-kilometer mountain trail, you can observe over 120 animals belonging to 15 different species, all within a stunning natural environment.
Pyrenean Fauna: The Inhabitants of Lacuniacha
Lacuniacha is home to species that live or once lived in the Pyrenees, all coming from recovery centers or European conservation programs (EEP). Here you can see:
- Fallow deer, red deer, roe deer, and wild boars.
- Mouflons, chamois, and Alpine ibex.
- Eurasian lynx, bears, wolves, and foxes.
- European bison, Przewalski’s horses, Heck cattle, and reindeer.
All of Lacuniacha’s animals were born in captivity or rescued to receive proper care and live a dignified life.
Native Wildlife in Freedom
Lacuniacha is not a barrier to local wildlife. Its fences allow wild animals from the surrounding area to freely enter and leave the park. During your visit, you may spot squirrels, birds, moles, wildcats, badgers, or foxes living freely around the forest.
It is also a birdwatcher’s paradise: thanks to its location and ecosystems, the park allows the observation of scavenger birds and other species from its hide in the Muladar, part of the Official Network of Feeding Stations of Aragon.
Flora and Landscape: A Living Pyrenean Forest
The park is located in the old forest of La Pinosa, within the Ordesa-Viñamala Biosphere Reserve, the only area of its kind in Aragon.
The trail combines two typical Pyrenean ecosystems:
Lower Lacuniacha: mixed forest with holly, beech, boxwood, Scots pine, oak, and birch.
Upper Lacuniacha: subalpine meadow with mountain shrubs and flowers, offering spectacular panoramic views.
Along the route, you’ll find natural viewpoints and a botanical trail that turns the visit into a true nature classroom for all ages.
