Ornithological, Geological and Botanical Route of Gerbe
Discover the nature, birds and unique landscapes of Sobrarbe in Gerbe (Aínsa-Sobrarbe), a small village in the Aragonese Pyrenees where nature comes alive. Along this ornithological, geological and botanical trail, you’ll enjoy a unique walk that combines birdwatching, flora, geology and rural culture.
A nature experience for everyone
The Gerbe route follows an old traditional path of about 4.5 kilometres, with just 10 metres of elevation gain, making it an easy and family-friendly activity. Along the way, you’ll find informative panels on birds and plants, made from recycled materials, to help you identify the most representative species of the area.
Perfect for families, school groups, or birdwatching enthusiasts.
A landscape full of life
Gerbe sits on a river terrace connecting different natural habitats: the Mediano Reservoir and the Lanata River, pine and holm oak forests, farmlands and open areas, and the village of Gerbe itself, full of rural charm.
These ecosystems make it possible to observe a great diversity of birds throughout the year.
Depending on the season, you can enjoy:
- The migration of cranes
- The first flights of young kites
- The distinctive song of the golden oriole
The highlight: Hide Birding Sobrarbe
The experience culminates at Hide Birding Sobrarbe, a specially designed observation hide that allows you to enjoy birds’ natural behavior without disturbing them. From here, you can watch local species such as the Eurasian jay or the corn bunting, which have grown accustomed to the presence of the hide.
A sustainable ecotourism project
The Gerbe Ornithological Route is a pioneering project in the Aragonese Pyrenees, recognized by the Government of Aragon through its 1st Sustainable Rural Entrepreneurship Program. Since 2016, the trail and its hide have been supported by INAGA and the Ebro River Basin Authority (CHE), ensuring environmentally responsible and long-term management.
